Tally Marks


Tally marks are a simple way to count things. It's easy and fun to use. If you want to know how many apples you have, or how many cars passed by, tally marks can help you. You draw lines to show the numbers. Every time you count something, you draw a line. After four lines, the fifth line goes across the first four lines. This group of five lines is called a tally group.

What do tally marks look like?
