Writing Numbers 1 to 100


Welcome to the journey of learning to write numbers from 1 to 100! This is a very important skill for everyone. Numbers help us count things, tell time, and understand the world around us.

What are the numbers?

Numbers are symbols or words that indicate counting or position. Numbers such as 1, 2 and 3 indicate small quantities or "amounts."

Counting from 1 to 10

Let's start with the basics. Here are the numbers from 1 to 10:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

When we count, we start at 1 and move forward one digit each time:

1 + 1 = 2 2 + 1 = 3 3 + 1 = 4 4 + 1 = 5 5 + 1 = 6 6 + 1 = 7 7 + 1 = 8 8 + 1 = 9 9 + 1 = 10

Counting from 11 to 20

Now we continue counting beyond 10. The numbers from 11 to 20 are as follows:

11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

After every set of ten numbers, we start a new set. Here's what this looks like with some examples:

10 + 1 = 11 10 + 2 = 12 10 + 3 = 13 10 + 4 = 14 10 + 5 = 15 10 + 6 = 16 10 + 7 = 17 10 + 8 = 18 10 + 9 = 19 10 + 10 = 20

Counting from 21 to 30

Now, let's count from 21 to 30:

21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30

This pattern continues with adding 10:

20 + 1 = 21 20 + 2 = 22 20 + 3 = 23 20 + 4 = 24 20 + 5 = 25 20 + 6 = 26 20 + 7 = 27 20 + 8 = 28 20 + 9 = 29 20 + 10 = 30

Continue counting to 100

We continue this process, adding 10 each time to get to the next set of numbers. Here they are, up to 100:

Understanding the pattern

When writing numbers, it is important to understand the pattern. In each set of ten, the starting digit changes as you count upward:

10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100

For each set:

  • 1 to 10 - starts with "1"
  • 11 to 20 - starts with "2"
  • 21 to 30 - starts with "3"
  • And this pattern continues

Tens and ones

Every number has a "tens" and a "units" place:

45 = 4 tens + 5 units
67 = 6 tens + 7 units

This understanding helps a lot in counting and writing numbers.

Practice writing numbers

Try writing the numbers in sets like this:

  1. Write numbers from 1 to 10
  2. Write 11 to 20
  3. Write 21 to 30
  4. and up to 100

Fun with numbers

You can also turn breaking down numbers into fun challenges:

  • Count by 2's: 2, 4, 6, 8, ..., 100
  • Count by 5's: 5, 10, 15, ..., 100
  • Count by 10's: 10, 20, 30, ..., 100
